Program of Inquiry – Grades K-5

Here is a year-long plan for a classroom looking to increase inquiry among students. This plan is excellent to give teachers a concrete example of what a year-long inquiry plan looks like. The plan is centered around exploring the world but starts very small: with who students are. Over the course of the year, students slowly expand their field of study until they look into international communities and how humans interact with animals and their environment. The plan is organized into six categories, each spanning two months. Each two-month block provides teachers with a central idea, key concepts, and three to four different inquiry paths for teachers to explore with students. There are six different plans, each individualized for classrooms K-5. This is a must-look for elementary school teachers unsure of how to begin implementing inquiry in their lesson plans.
