Community Heroes – PBL Planner

This document is a filled-out Project-Based Learning (PBL) planner for an elementary school project titled “Community Heroes.” This resource provides a detailed, week-by-week guide for teachers to help young students explore the concept of heroes in their communities. Through reading, discussion, art creation, and writing, students learn about well-known historical and present-day figures, identify local heroes, and ultimately create and present portraits and written tributes in a “Gallery of Heroes” exhibition. This planner is especially useful for teachers because it offers a structured, standards-aligned approach to integrating social studies, literacy, and art while fostering critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. By following this guide, teachers can engage students in meaningful, hands-on learning that connects classroom content to real-world experiences and encourages students to appreciate the positive impact individuals can have on their communities.
