Citizen U: Multidisciplinary Civics Lessons

Citizen U is a multidisciplinary civics education initiative that provides inquiry-based lessons integrating civics across English language arts, math, science, and social studies for grades K–12. Developed by education organizations and funded by the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources program, Citizen U helps strengthen civic literacy and engagement among students, making civic concepts relevant across curricula. The program’s lessons are aligned with national standards, encouraging development of critical 21st-century skills like collaboration, problem-solving, and information literacy. By offering practical, classroom-tested resources, professional development, and support for teachers, Citizen U enhances both student engagement and broader school culture, equipping young people to participate effectively in democracy and develop skills needed for modern success.
